Complete Disorganization!!

Does anyone have any tips for students who are just completely disorganized. I have several students this year who are constantly forgetting/losing assignments, books, binders ect.. I sat with them at the beginning of the year and organized/labeled all the materials they needed for their classes. I then walked them through the process of making sure materials and supplies are placed in the proper area when they are recieved. I encourage and even check Agenda use from time to time. I even do organization checks where I check their class notebooks and binders to make sure materials are where they belong. However, short of me going through their bookbag everyday they are still completey disorganized. They have papers everywhere, nothing is where it belongs, assignments are lost and never completed ect... I am open to any suggestions because this problem is starting to severely affect their grades.

What about developing a motivation system to help them remain organized. Remember that this is a very difficult task for them, so it requires extreme effort and concentration. Grades are not motivating enough, and they need more frequent motivators. You could give tokens for appropriate organization daily and let them exchange the tokens for rewards weekly or monthly. Eventually you can scale back the frequency of checking and rewarding as the systems become a habit.
